Internet running slow tonight? Don't panic — and don't reboot everything in the house just yet. In our experience, three checks fix the vast majority of slow-connection complaints:
- Power-cycle your router. Unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. This clears stale connections and forces a fresh DHCP lease. Old trick, still the most effective.
- Test on a wired device. Plug your laptop directly into the router with a network cable. If wired is fast and Wi-Fi is slow, the problem is your wireless — not your internet line.
- Run a speed test on two devices. If one is slow and the other is fine, the issue is on that single device (background downloads, Windows updates, malware) — not on your line.
